Famous for its art and history, Gorizia has always been a crossroads of Europe’s Latin, Germanic and Slavonic cultures. Most of the private and public buildings date from the 18th century, the city’s golden age.
Gorizia Castle is the main feature of the city centre and an important landmark, given its hilltop position overlooking the small, narrow alleys that wind their way down to the town below.
The heart of the Castle is the Lanzi Courtyard, where the remains of the tall central tower that was destroyed in the 16th century can still be seen today.
Beautifull Collio
Collio is the hilly area surrounding Gorizia that stretches as far as the Slovenian border flanked by the Rivers Isonzo and Judrio. The origins of Capriva, which is surrounded by stunning countryside, date from Roman times, as demonstrated by the archaeological ruins found there.
Gentle, rolling hills form a lush, green backdrop to the setting of Spessa Castle, which was built in 1200, and whose renovation in 1881 restored it to its former beauty.
Next to the Castle is an important winemaking firm with an estate set in extensive parklands and surrounded by glorious vineyards.
The estate consists of an excellent cellar, a conference room, a small museum dedicated to Giacomo Casanova and a sumptuous room for celebrations.
