Verona is a beautiful city, rich in artistic treasures and world-famous for its Arena, monuments, Medieval walls and particularly loved by literature fans, as it was here that Shakespeare drew inspiration for his tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Juliet’s house and the balcony from where she spoke to her lover can be visited today and attracts thousands visitors every year.
Having seen the main sights of Verona, participants are free to choose whether to visit the famous squares Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza Bra, to enjoy a stroll along Lungadige with a view over Castelvecchio and Ponte Scaligero, or to go shopping downtown.
The Arena is the symbol of Verona. It was built in the 1st century BC and has been a venue for shows, events and fights since Roman times.
VALPOLICELLA
The area around Verona is called Valpolicella, meaning “valley with many cellars”. Needless to say, wine farming has been one of the most popular and successful activities here since Roman times.
The two most famous wines from Valpolicella are Amarone, a full-bodied red wine, and Recioto, a sweet red wine that is ideally served with dry cakes as a dessert wine.
The winery we visit today is situated in the beautiful Valle dei Ciliegi (Cherry tree valley), where wine is produced with the same passion and enthusiasm as 50 years ago.
After a short walk through the vines, we will taste three different wines and the cellar will turn into a restaurant where we will taste a selection of local specialities.
